Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect?
People of all ages and backgrounds, families, singles, and students attend Welsh Road Church. We want you to feel completely welcome, because our God is a welcoming God, and we desire to reflect his interest in your life.
Our greeters will welcome you at the front door and give you a bulletin, so you know what is happening during the service. They also have a welcome packet for first-time visitors that contains a little more information about Welsh Road Church. The greeters and ushers are available to answer questions or give directions.
Our worship services last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. You’ll worship with a blend of music varying from hymns to contemporary music, prayer, scripture reading, offering, and sermon. A sermon guide is available for note-taking. Recordings of the sermons are available through our website.
What should I wear?
Our pastor and others up front dress conservatively, but you’ll see all kinds of attire in the congregation. Most people dress according to their own comfort levels, but it is entirely a personal decision. On Sunday mornings, you will find men and women in suits and dresses as well as in slacks and jeans.
What about my children?
In order for you to fully benefit from our Worship Services, we have created safe and exciting environments for your children. You have the option to let your children stay in the service with you, or participate in our Children’s Ministry environments (up to 3rd grade).
Nursery Care (0-2 year-olds) is available during the Worship Service (10:30am) in the nursery off of our main lobby. You will need to check-in your child for safety.
Coming Soon: Pre-Kindergarten (3-4 year-olds) is available during the Worship Service (10:30am) downstairs in our fellowship hall area. You will need to check-in your child for safety.
Young Worshippers in Training (Kindergarten-3rd Grade) is offered during the Worship Service. Children are dismissed from the sanctuary before the sermon. They will worship downstairs in the fellowship hall, and they will be returned at the end of the service.
Elementary and Middle School (4th Grade – 8th Grade) students have the opportunity to use a “Sermon Worksheet” with questions designed to help them understand and stay connected throughout the sermon. These are located in the lobby.
What is the Sunday morning schedule?
We have our congregational prayer time at 9:00am for the entire church to come together and pray for the morning, for Sunday School, and for the worship service.
Our Sunday School hour begins at 9:15am and goes until 10:15am. We have the nursery available during this time with Pre-K being offered soon.
There is a short prelude at 10:25am prior to our worship service, so we can prepare to worship. The worship services begin at 10:30am. Children (in grades K-3) are dismissed for children’s worship before the sermon. The service concludes around 11:45am.
Do I need my own Bible?
We believe the Bible to be the Holy, Inspired, Inerrant Word of God, and we use it to guide all that we do at Welsh Road Church. You do not need to have your own copy of the Bible to attend as we have some available for use at church. However, we do want everyone to have their own copy of the Scriptures to be able to read and study, so if you need one, please talk to one of our staff.
What if I don’t know anything about God or the Bible?
The Bible says, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” We do not expect you to know and believe until you have heard, and we are here to help you learn the truth found in the Bible. If you are ready to hear what the Lord has in store for you, we would love to have you come and visit us. Be prepared to listen, ask questions, and learn about the hope we have through Jesus Christ.
Do you take an offering?
Our members are committed to regular and systematic giving as the Lord leads, so offering boxes are available in the entrance lobby. As our guest, you aren’t expected to make a donation. However, we would love to hear from you. We do ask that you fill out the information card and place it in the offering box. Thank you!
What if I need help?
If you or someone you know should need any help this week with anything, please do not hesitate to contact the church office at (215) 646-1220 or via the online contact form.
